WHAT IS SESSION?
Session is the governing body at First Presbyterian Church, composed of 12 members elected by the congregation for three year terms. According to the Presbyterian Book of Order, "Elders are chosen by the people. Together with the ministers of the Word and Sacrament, they exercise leadership, government, and discipline and have responsibilities for the life relationships. They will serve faithfully as members of the session." In March, 1998, Session adopted the following five year goals (1998-2003).
In order to carry out it's business, Session has formed five standing committees and commissions. Each session member serves on two Commissions or Committees of Session, one of the Standing Commissions or Committees and one of the Core Ministry Commissions. |
